About
As of 2026, it's 43 years old.
My Little Pony trotted out in 1983 as a line of pastel collectible horses with brushable manes and little symbols on their flanks, and quickly became one of the defining toys of the decade's 'collect them all' era. The animated specials and TV show were, of course, a feature-length toy commercial, and nobody minded.
Then something unexpected happened: the 2010 reboot, Friendship Is Magic, became a genuine cultural phenomenon with a devoted adult fanbase ('bronies') that nobody at Hasbro saw coming. A toy aimed at little girls accidentally became an internet movement.
Colorful, collectible, and improbably cross-generational, My Little Pony is the toy that galloped from playroom to subculture and back.
