About
As of 2026, it's 44 years old.
The Vectrex didn't need your TV — it brought its own. Built into the unit was a tall monochrome vector screen, the same glowing-line tech as Asteroids arcade cabinets, making it gloriously unlike every raster console of its day.
Since the display was strictly black-and-white, games shipped with translucent plastic overlays you slotted over the screen to fake color and add artwork. A light-pen and even a 3D headset accessory followed before the 1983 crash cut its run short.
A console with its own glowing screen, killed too soon and beloved by collectors ever since.
