The ColecoVision arrived with a killer pitch: arcade games that actually looked like the arcade. Its pack-in was Donkey Kong, and a near-faithful Kong on your own TV was a genuine flex in 1982.
Coleco also sold the cheeky Expansion Module #1, an adapter that let the machine play Atari 2600 cartridges — turning your rival's entire library into bonus content. Then the 1983 crash arrived and flattened nearly everyone, Coleco included.
