About
As of 2026, it's 71 years old.
If you picture a perfect vintage pickup — two-tone paint, a wraparound windshield, chrome that could blind a passing motorist — you're probably picturing a Chevy 3100. The 1955 'Task Force' generation tossed out the rounded prewar look and brought truck styling roaring into the jet age with bold, car-like flair.
This was the truck that finally married work and beauty. Chevrolet wrapped the rugged half-ton in panoramic glass and trim once reserved for sedans, then dropped in something revolutionary: the brand-new 265-cubic-inch small-block V8, the engine that would power Chevys for decades to come.
That first small-block made around 154 horsepower — genuinely lively for a 1955 pickup — and gave the 3100 a get-up-and-go that matched its handsome face. Suddenly a work truck could be the best-looking thing in the driveway.
Today the Task Force 3100 is a hot-rod and restoration icon, endlessly chopped, slammed, and lovingly polished. It's proof that 'work truck' and 'rolling sculpture' were never mutually exclusive — Chevy just had to build it first.
