House of the Dragon returned to the world of Game of Thrones to tell the story of the Targaryen civil war — a generation of dragon-riding royals tearing their own family apart over a throne. After the original's divisive ending, it had to win back a wary audience, and it largely did, dragons and all.
Lavish, political, and full of doomed nobles making catastrophic decisions, it proved there was plenty of life (and fire) left in the realm.
