The SX-70 was Edwin Land's pocket miracle: a folding single-lens-reflex camera that spat out a photo which developed before your eyes, no shaking required (despite what an entire generation insisted on doing anyway).
It was a genuine engineering flex, collapsing into a sleek leather-and-chrome slab, then unfolding into a futuristic gadget that wouldn't look out of place in a space station. Andy Warhol carried one everywhere.
Instant, self-contained, and impossibly cool, the SX-70 made photography a party trick and turned everyone into a slightly impatient artist.
