Philips pitched the CD-i as a do-everything multimedia 'interactive' appliance — encyclopedias, photo CDs, edutainment, and oh yes, games — at a price that made most people quietly back away.
Its lasting fame is an accident: a deal with Nintendo collapsed, leaving Philips the rights to make Zelda games, which produced the gloriously awful Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and Hotel Mario. Their stilted cutscenes became internet legend decades later.
A premium media box remembered almost entirely for the worst Zelda games ever made.
