About
As of 2026, it's 51 years old.
Bohemian Rhapsody is the six-minute rock opera that had absolutely no business being a hit — no chorus, a full operatic mid-section with 'Galileo' and 'Scaramouche,' and a structure record executives reportedly begged Queen to cut down. Freddie Mercury refused, the radio played it anyway, and it became one of the most beloved songs ever recorded.
It topped the UK charts twice (once after Mercury's death), spawned a generation of headbanging singalongs, and proved that audiences will happily follow a band anywhere if the band sounds that confident.
Operatic, audacious, and utterly singular, Bohemian Rhapsody is the song that broke every rule of pop songwriting and became immortal for it.
