About
As of 2026, it's 50 years old.
Disco did not do 'subtle.' Late-'70s nightlife dressed for maximum sparkle: sequins, satin, metallics, plunging jumpsuits, and platform shoes engineered for the Studio 54 dance floor. If it didn't throw light off a spinning mirror ball, it simply wasn't trying.
Saturday Night Fever immortalized the white three-piece suit while everyone else competed to be the single shiniest object in the room. The look was sweaty, sensual, and gloriously unbothered by good taste.
Whenever glamour and a four-on-the-floor beat come back around, disco's shimmer tags along — but it will always belong to the era of the mirror ball and the velvet rope outside Studio 54.
